Buy Local Holiday Events 2021

The holiday season is fast approaching and what better way to celebrate the diversity of our East Harlem merchants than attending one of our holiday markets!

Small Business Saturday

Beginning with our outdoor market on Small Business Saturday at Santiago’s Beer Garden, traditionally held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 27th, it’s a day to support local businesses by shopping small.

Small Business Saturday is traditionally held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, it’s November 27th. What began as an American Express coined initiative has now become an annual event in East Harlem, where we all come together to support our small business community. This year it will be held at Santiago’s Beer Garden and will include music by Annette Aguilar & StringBeans Duo, featuring Beldado on guitar. Here’s a list of the Buy Local affiliated merchants you can come out and support! And don’t forget to order a meal or cocktail from Santiago’s Beer Garden while enjoying that music! Seating will be available inside and curbside.

Church of the Heavenly Rest

Followed by indoor markets at Church of the Heavenly Rest on December 4th.

Our markets not only support minority-owned businesses, but 99% of our vendors are women-owned entrepreneurs who either reside or have a business located in East Harlem. Stop by for great gift ideas with art by Yo Soy Mia and Ysabel Abreu, books by local author and East Harlem historian Chris Bell, “Spanglish” custom made pins by Pinchazo, handmade soaps by MaddSoap and more. We respect social distancing guidelines, mask requirements and [when required for indoor markets] proof of vaccination or day of “negative” Covid tests.

Chiwara Naturals

Pure Body care inspired by Mother Nature.

In the quest for self-preservation, as well as seeking the well-being of family and friends, I found out my passion for natural, holistic, sustainable ways of healing, using products from Mother Earth's bounty. Traditional ancestral medicine and healing which include the use of herbs, teas and other healing substances has been a blessing. to my process. From the agricultural Bambara people of West Africa to the Arawak of the Caribbean, I source inspiration and information regarding wholesome co-existence with life and the universe.

My dream is to pass on this cycle of communal knowledge of healing and regeneration to younger generations, creating an inter-generational ecosystem of connectiveness. We are the earth, and the Earth is us.

WRV Designs

I started WRV Designs by making aprons as a gift for relatives and friends on 2016. While the time has passed, now I make bags, purses and even pets clothing. I have discovered there is no limit to creativity.

WRV Designs pieces are mostly made from reused materials, specially jeans. Every time I create a new item, I thank my grandmothers and aunts for the time we spent together during my childhood teaching me the art of sewing.

Find us in Facebook and Instagram as WRV Designs.
